A Play Date for One!

Fly1a

Where does that expression come from? You know the one ... "Did you get out the wrong side of the bed this morning?"

Anyways ... this morning it did n't matter because I definitely did! Ready to bludgeon any one in my path with a Fimo Clay rolling pin I was. But I did n't actually get out of the wrong side ... I got out the same side as any other day ... so the whole expression seems a bit odd and when John asked me that very same question this morning ... trust me when I say ... my first thought was not ... I wonder where that expression came from ... it was more ... well I think I also checked the box that I cannot discuss extreme violence on my blog ... so best I don't go there.Fly1

So there I was ... a grumpy old woman ... when lo and behold the postie arrives with me new Wendy Vecchi book ... signed by the talented lady herself ... the cloud lifted ... I said NO to the housework ... actually I do that every day ... but I am going for literary effect here ... I took Wendy upstairs and we had a play date! It was fab ... I played happily for hours :0) You definitely neeeeeed this book!

So ... come on ... you clever peeps ... where does the expression come from??? If you don't know either ... just humour me and make stuff up ... I do all the time :0)

I agree, the book is great! Hope your wonderful art cheered you up. I googled it but didn't come up with anything useful, and it's late so my brain isn't working any more!! See you on your workdesk in the morning?!

Don't know where the saying comes from Linda but have you tried getting out of bed the opposite side to normal? It definitely doesn't feel right and makes you feel proper aggravated. So I suppose it does make you grumpy!

I think I do need that book BTW. I got Mr Tim's the other week and it's brilliant. Now I neeeed Wendy's and some of her fab new stamps.

Wow, I must put that book on my ever growing wish list!
I think the saying has something to do with not putting your left foot on the floor first when getting out of bed - sounds like they had OCD in the middle ages lol!
Gorgeous work btw.

This is so beautiful, and I love how you've put beads for the butterflies body, what a wonderful idea! :)

I read that it could be due to right being good and left evil and also what Jenifer said about left foot not touching the floor first. If you get out of bed on the left ..your left foot will touch first.

Looks like you had a great day ...love your end result ...has a haunting quality.

This piece of art seems to have a deep and meaningful air about it. Love the red and the bluey greeny colours together.

The saying is probably from when a bed is pushed up against a wall and if you got out the wrong side - you'd bump head/nose on said wall and be grumpy.... obviously i've made that up!!!

Fab piece Linda, has a bold look about it ! The meaning of the saying eludes me, but I will find out where it originated and let you know.

Stunning work Linda! I am glad you cheered up and enjoyed your day. According to the book "Red Herrings and White Elephants" evil spirits sleep on the left side of the bed so if you get out of that side they inhabit you for the day until you rectify the mistake by getting out of the right side the next day. That doesn't sound good for those of us who sleep on the left side does it!

Well, if only I could get out the wrong side and still come up with a masterpiece I don't think I would complain.
BTW I sleep on the left side, i used to sleep on the right side but he had a hernia op so we swapped sides so he could get out of bed easier (ours is pushed up against the wall)and then couldn't be bothered to swap back. I actually crawl out of bed and get out at the bottom. What does that say about me !!!
Didn't actually answer your question but hey I'll go along with the left foot theory !!!!
Great work ...............

I really like when people are expressing their opinion and thought. So I like the way you are writing

I don't know where the expression comes from and unfortunately I'm not clever enough to make something up that would amuse you - I have tried and could only get as far as there being drawing pins or shards of glass on one side of the bed but couldn't think beyond that :-/
Gorgeous artwork hun, think I may have to get the book.

this is a great piece of art that you have put your creative imagination to Linda and bet your using all new distress colours to, as for the saying no idea where it comes from and at least if you got out of bed the wrong side you would not hit your head xx

Absolutely perfect - I am sure your are well and truly happy and calm after making that

Very funny! Sorry, I've no idea where the expression comes from, but I certainly got some entertainment from reading all your comments on the subject :)

I have a very, very vague feeling that it might have something to do with sailors and hammocks but I could be way off beam there! Glad the book put your day back on track though - fab little piece!
